Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich announced Friday that veteran offensive line coach Howard Mudd has stepped down from his consulting role with the team.
"I was able to help talk him out of retirement for this, but within the last week or so, Mudd thought he'd done his job as a consultant," Reich said.
Reich said nothing physical contributed to Mudd's decision.
The Colts announced Mudd, 76, was returning to the team in February as a senior offensive assistant.
