WESTFIELD — Kwity Paye, the Colts' first-round pick and presumptive starter at right defensive end, suffered a sprained right ankle during Wednesday's practice, a league source with knowledge of the injury told IndyStar.
Paye stayed on the ground after an 11-on-11 play, prompting several defensive line teammates to stick around and offer support as trainers checked out his ankle.
The rookie defensive end got up and left the field under his own power, but he did not return to practice. A timetable has not been determined for his return.
Indianapolis has been cautious with injuries in training camp this year, and Paye could miss Thursday and Friday's joint practices against the Carolina Panthers, as well as the preseason game between the teams Sunday.
