ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Robert Mathis will not make his season debut this afternoon in Buffalo.
The Colts’ all-time sack leader is one of seven inactive for the Colts’ 2015 season opener. Speculation grew that Mathis could make his return to the field Sunday — which would’ve been his first game action in 20 months —after coaches have increased his participation in practice incrementally over the last few weeks. He’s seen 15 snaps or so a day in practice over the past week, and asked if he would be out there, Mathis replied coyly, “Stay tuned."
Instead, the Colts will yield on the side of caution and hold out Mathis for at least another week.
