Once Healed, Colts Could Look to Bring Boom Herron Back

According to multiple Indianapolis media sources, the Indianapolis Colts could look to re-sign recently released running back Dan “Boom” Herron once his injured shoulder is fully healed:

Grigson on Boom Herron: “We would love to have him here. (The injury) put us in a tough spot.” Extremely tough decision. — Kevin Bowen (@KBowenColts) September 7, 2015

Apparently, his shoulder injury suffered as a kick returner in last Thursday’s preseason finale isn’t thought to be season-ending. Rather, the Colts simply couldn’t afford to keep him given their limited roster spots, while he recovers from injury:

Here’s the deal on Boom Herron, as I see it: Didn’t wanna carry him on roster while injured (takes up a spot) and IR wasn’t quite necessary — Stephen Holder (@HolderStephen) September 7, 2015

While that seems like a fair point, what is rather perplexing is that the team opted to release Herron, yet kept the oft-injured Vick Ballard as a backup running back on their active roster.
