INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts saw something in Al-Quadin Muhammad that nobody else saw.
Muhammad had been drafted by the Saints, a sixth-round flyer on an athletic specimen who’d seen his college career at Miami derailed by off-the-field issues. After playing in just four games as a rookie, the big defensive end was cut at the end of his second training camp in New Orleans.
Only one team put in a waiver claim for Muhammad, who had struggled during his time with the Saints, coming along slowly in his transition to the NFL level.
The Indianapolis scouting staff dug deep, saw the same athletic gifts that initially enticed the Saints.
