The Indianapolis Colts on Monday released quarterback Josh Johnson, their insurance policy in the event backup Matt Hasselbeck went down during Sunday's game against Jacksonville.
That means the Colts are hopeful starter Andrew Luck returns to the field Thursday night against the Houston Texans. Luck missed the first game of his NFL career Sunday, a 16-13 overtime victory over the Jaguars.
Luck was at practice when the media was allowed to watch but it appeared to be a light workout with the players not wearing helmets. Luck did not speak to the media today.
Following Johnson's release, Indianapolis now has one available roster spot.
