Handing a fistful of cash to a kid who had never had it in significant quantities seemed rife with potential pitfalls.
Greg Knox knew this. So, the Mississippi State running backs coach worked out an arrangement with his newest player, whose arrival on campus was accompanied by the disbursement of a $2,800 Pell Grant intended to last the entire fall semester.
The deal worked as follows: Knox would hold onto the money and dole it out as necessary to Josh Robinson on a weekly basis.
"You're 18 years old and they hand you this money," Knox said.
