Jonathan Newsome's release increases Colts' need for pass-rushers

INDIANAPOLIS – The release or linebacker Jonathan Newsome on Monday following his arrest for marijuana charges last week made the need address that position in free agency and the draft even more important for the Indianapolis Colts.

Newsome, who had 7.5 sacks in his two seasons, was one of the youngest players at that position on the roster. The Colts’ best pass rusher at that position last season – Robert Mathis – turns 35 years old later this week. Trent Cole could be released after a disappointing 2015 season where he only had three sacks. Bjoern Werner, the team’s first-round pick in 2013, has not lived up to expectations in his three seasons.
