INDIANAPOLIS — As he surveyed the crowd, looking into the sea of young faces, Robert Mathis felt it was time for some heartfelt words.
Mathis has always had a knack for timing, which is about the only way one could possibly record 122 career sacks. But Mathis is not prone to protracted statements. Elaboration is not his thing. His words are few, but their impact great. This is true whether the outside linebacker is breaking down the Indianapolis Colts’ pre-game huddle or, on this night, telling an audience of 600 needy kids and their families that everything will, in fact, be OK.
