For most, the big takeaway from Sunday's decision by the Colts to release starting right tackle Gosder Cherilus was simple: General manager Ryan Grigson swung and missed on the 2013 class of free agents.
I'm not here to quibble with that assertion.
The facts speak for themselves when evaluating Grigson's $100 million-plus spending spree. Just consider the eventual outcomes of signings like LaRon Landry, Ricky Jean Francois and Cherilus, all of whom were cut after just two seasons. (I remain steadfast in my belief that Greg Toler has been a good addition, playing decent football when healthy, though your opinion may vary).
