Insider: How Colts defense shut down Josh Allen, turned in its best performance in 2 years

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — For four years now, the book on the Colts defense has been the same: Indianapolis is excellent against the run, vulnerable against the pass, especially the NFL’s best quarterbacks.

The book had been mostly right this season. Banged-up in the secondary ranked 23rd against the pass, young on the defensive line, the struggling Indianapolis pass defense played a critical role in the Colts’ 1-4 start.

Indianapolis tore the book to shreds in a 41-15 win over Buffalo on Sunday, bringing Bills superstar Josh Allen to his knees in the best defensive performance the Colts have put together since slowing Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City’s high-octane machine to a crawl in the early days of 2019.
