Insider: Colts think Khari Willis, Julian Blackmon might be a special safety tandem

INDIANAPOLIS – Matt Eberflus remembers the moment.

The first time he got a good look at Julian Blackmon in the flesh.

Blackmon, the team’s third-round pick in 2020, had torn his ACL in his final collegiate game, and because of the time it takes to rehabilitate that injury, Eberflus and the rest of the Colts’ decision-makers had only seen Blackmon on film.

The rookie from Utah made one heck of a first impression.

“I’m standing there next to (safeties coach) Alan Williams, we have him side-by-side with the corners, and we’re doing the break drills, the movement drills that DBs do,” Eberflus said.
