Insider Joel A. Ericson discusses the Indianapolis Colts taking quarterback Jacob Eason. Indianapolis Star
Time and time again this offseason, Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard warned that he wouldn't "force it" at the quarterback position during the NFL Draft. Despite the sudden retirement of Andrew Luck and Jacboy Brissett's subsequent inability to grab hold of the starting job, the Colts, Ballard vowed, weren't going to panic just because they didn't have a building block at quarterback.
If they picked someone during the draft, he had to be the right guy.
"It's going to be a guy that we have a strong conviction on, and we know that we think he can be our future," Ballard said late Friday night after the second day of the draft.
