Indianapolis Colts waive former first-round pick Bjoern Werner

INDIANAPOLIS – The first round of the draft hasn’t been a major success outside of quarterback Andrew Luck for Indianapolis Colts general manager Ryan Grigson.

The Colts added to their woes with first round picks when they waived linebacker Bjoern Werner, who they took at No. 24 in 2013, on Tuesday.

The move wasn’t surprising considering Werner’s diminished role with the team. Werner moved into the starting lineup in 2014 after starter Robert Mathis was serving his four-game suspension for using performance enhancement drugs and then when was lost for the season with a torn Achilles.
