Indianapolis Colts release OT Gosder Cherilus

The Indianapolis Colts announced Sunday they have released right tackle Gosder Cherilus.

The move brings to an end Cherilus' two-year stint with the team that saw him perform on wildly different levels from 2013 to 2014.

Signing Cherilus in the spring of 2013 to a 5-year, $35-million contract was both an aggressive and risky move for the Colts.

He was solid in 2013, living up to a deal that made him the NFL’s highest-paid right tackle at the time. But Cherilus’ performance declined precipitously in 2014, at least in part because of mounting injuries, including a groin injury and knee injury that has long plagued him.
