People have underestimated Edgerrin James his whole life. Maybe they looked at him and saw the gold teeth, the dreadlocks and they made an assumption. Maybe they heard him talk, an Immokalee, Fla., native who never tried to hide where he was from, and they made another.
James doesn’t know why for sure. But it doesn’t matter, really. He laughs about it now, just as the legendary Colts running back did during his playing days. If people want to keep making assumptions about him, misjudging him, underestimating him, good. He’ll use it to his advantage, just as he’s always done.
