INDIANAPOLIS — Chase McLaughlin is comfortable in front of his locker, affable and easygoing, matter of fact about the pressure-packed situation he’s entered.
McLaughlin is in his third state this week. He drove down from Chicago the night before, as soon as it became clear which team had claimed him off of waivers, a day after he was released by the 49ers team he’d called home for a month.
He has three days to get ready. Three days to learn everything he needs to know as a Colt. Three days before taking over for a man widely considered to be the greatest kicker of all time, an embattled legend whose struggles this season have played a role in putting this team in the high-pressure situation it’s in right now, clinging to faint playoff hopes.
