The "In Memoriam" part of the 2018 ESPYs honored former Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson, among others.
Jackson, 26, died in February when he and his Uber driver, Jeffrey Monroe, 54, were struck and killed by a car.
Some chose to make a political statement out of the accident because the driver of the car was a Guatemalan citizen named Manuel Orrego-Savala who had twice been deported from the United States. Orrego-Savala was suspected to be intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Others chose to celebrate Jackson's life and mourn his passing.
"Edwin was an amazing young man that filed our lives with joy and pride," his family said in a statement at the time to 11alive.
