Doyel: Out of the factory, into the Colts backfield for Troymaine Pope

Clark Wade/IndyStar

INDIANAPOLIS – He quit the job at the factory. It was a Honda plant 30 miles away in Lincoln, Ala. He was on the assembly line, putting together tools. Making $9 an hour. Indianapolis Colts running back hopeful Troymaine Pope had that job for all of one day before quitting on his way out the door. He had more potential than this. He just knew it.

Pope was telling his mom it would be OK, but Mom was worried. You know how that goes.

He’d chased the NFL dream, but now it was time to put that dream away.
