Colts WR Josh Downs leaves practice early with an ankle injury

WESTFIELD, IN — Today’s practice was one drenched in competition, both in weather and competitive nature, but that may have gone too far during the team’s first 7-on-7 of the day.

Second-year wide receiver Josh Downs was slow to get up and eventually needed help from two trainers to walk off the field after being tackled by third-year safety Nick Cross in 7-on-7. Colts head coach Shane Steichen was understandably infuriated at the unnecessary tackle from Cross.

It was the definition of a boneheaded play and could prove to be a brutal loss depending on what X-rays and/or an MRI would conclude.
