INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich is hiring Tom Rathman as his running backs coach, according to a source.
Running back Frank Gore, who spent the past three seasons with the Colts, has a close relationship with Rathman. The two were together in San Francisco from 2009-14. The addition of Rathman doesn’t mean Gore, who will be 35-years-old in May, will be returning to Indianapolis. He’s about to be a free agent, and the Colts are looking to get younger at that position.
Rathman is joining a Colts coaching staff that also features new hires Matt Eberflus as defensive coordinator, Nick Sirianni as offensive coordinator, Bubba Ventrone as special teams coordinator and Rusty Jones as director of sports performance on Reich’s staff.
