INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts have already added at least one veteran in the days following the draft.
Indianapolis took a flyer on former third-round pick Malik Jefferson, a linebacker who has played mostly special teams in three NFL seasons with three teams.
Jefferson, a Texas product and still only 24 years old, tested remarkably well at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine. Measured at 6-2, 236 pounds at the time, Jefferson ran the 40-yard dash in 4.52 seconds and bench-pressed 225 pounds 27 times, a good number for an undersized linebacker.
But the athleticism didn’t earn Jefferson a role on defense with the Bengals, even though they’d used the 78th overall selection on him.
