Colts select Shawn Davis, a hard-hitting Florida safety, in fifth round of 2021 NFL Draft

The Indianapolis Colts selected confident, hard-hitting Florida safety Shawn Davis on Saturday afternoon with their fifth-round (No. 165 overall) pick.

While the Colts showed interest in him during the pre-draft process, Davis said he ultimately didn't know who was going to take him.

"I just knew going into the draft that whoever got me was getting a steal," Davis said Friday afternoon. "I’m ready to go in there and ball."

After primarily playing special teams (all four phases) during his first two seasons, Davis took on a starting role his junior year. He played 19 games (15 starts) for the Gators the past two seasons, contributing 91 tackles (three for a loss) with a forced fumble and nine passes defended, including five interceptions.
