Colts select pass-catching tight end Kylen Granson in fourth round of NFL Draft

INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts have picked a tight end for the first time in Chris Ballard’s tenure in Indianapolis.

For most of the offseason, Colts head coach Frank Reich has wanted a playmaking tight end he can use on the move, and Indianapolis used its fourth-round pick on SMU tight end Kylen Granson.

Granson, who transferred from Rice to SMU halfway through his career, thrived in Dallas, making 88 catches for 1,257 yards and 14 touchdowns in his two seasons with the Mustangs.

A little bit undersized at 6-1, 241 pounds, Granson has the sort of foot speed and athleticism to stretch the defense, an important role in the Indianapolis offense that has been filled by veterans like Eric Ebron and Trey Burton in Reich’s first three seasons.
