It was fitting that this dismal division came down to this: Two third-string quarterbacks piloting offenses that couldn’t move the ball, couldn’t score points, couldn’t do much of anything. There’s ugly football, then there’s Brandon Weeden and Charlie Whitehurst dueling in the fourth quarter for AFC South supremacy and a playoff spot.
(Yeah, it was just as bad as it sounds.)
There was still hope, late in the fourth quarter, when Matt Hasselbeck, bruised and battered and barely breathing, marched back on the field, intent on leading a game-winning touchdown drive for the Indianapolis Colts.
Then Griff Whalen fumbled.
