On this day three years ago, if you would have asked Chris Ballard who would be playing right tackle for the Colts not only in 2021 but deep into the new decade, Braden Smith’s name probably wouldn’t have come up.
The Colts general manager admitted recently that even after he selected Smith in the second round of his now hallowed 2018 NFL Draft, “(It was) the furthest thing from my mind that he was going to be our starting right tackle.”
That wasn’t meant to be an insult, either. Smith was a guard. He played guard almost exclusively in college.
