Colts release Josh Johnson; Luck ready to return?

The Colts on Monday released quarterback Josh Johnson, their insurance policy in the event backup Matt Hasselbeck went down during Sunday's game against Jacksonville.

That means the Colts are hopeful starter Andrew Luck returns to the field Thursday night against the Houston Texans. Luck missed the first game of his NFL career Sunday, a 16-13 overtime victory over the Jaguars.

Following Johnson's release, Indianapolis now has one available roster spot. The team worked out former running back Ahmad Bradshaw earlier Monday, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, a possible signing that would bolster a running back room that has struggled in recent weeks.
