INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts released backup quarterback Brett Hundley on Monday in order to make room for undrafted rookie free agent running back Deon Jackson, a surprising move that gives Indianapolis four running backs on the 53-man roster and elevates sixth-round rookie Sam Ehlinger to the backup role.
Hundley, who opened the season on the practice squad, has been Carson Wentz’s primary backup since taking over for Jacob Eason after the loss to the Rams in Week 2. Eason, a former fourth-round pick, was waived a couple of weeks ago and subsequently claimed by the Seattle Seahawks.
