Colts quarterback Carson Wentz will have surgery to remove a piece of broken bone and miss 5-12 weeks, according to coach Frank Reich.
Reich said Wentz likely suffered a broken foot in high school without realizing it and, over the course of time, the piece bone came loose during Thursday's practice, causing pain.
Wentz could have left it in his foot and attempted to manage the pain but the team wanted the "most predictable outcome," according to Reich. Dr. David Porter of Methodist Sports Medicine will perform the surgery at 4 p.m. Monday according to Reich.
