ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – The Indianapolis Colts forgot to show up for their season opener Sunday in Buffalo.
Must’ve slipped their minds.
After eight months of endless build-up and optimism and chatter of championship ambitions in Indianapolis, the Colts stumbled mightily and embarrassingly out of the gate Sunday, getting outcoached, outplayed and outtoughed in a dispiriting 27-14 defeat to the Bills.
The early returns: This is a football team with considerable holes. And the Bills, behind a frenzied home crowd at Ralph Wilson Stadium and riding the emotion of new coach Rex Ryan’s home debut, exposed every last one of them.
