Colts might like Badgley and Blankenship, but they need more power out of kicking position

INDIANAPOLIS — Three NFL divisional playoff games ended on a field goal last weekend, and the fourth was sent to overtime by the powerful swing of a kicker’s leg.

Rams kicker Matt Gay made a chip shot. Kansas City’s Harrison Butker capped Patrick Mahomes’ impossible rally with a 49-yard blast. San Francisco’s Robbie Gould buried a 45-yarder in swirling snow and frigid temperatures.

Rookie Evan McPherson became a folk hero in Cincinnati by hammering home a 52-yarder to beat the Titans and send the Bengals to the AFC Championship.

The Colts have to decide this offseason if one of their two young kickers, Michael Badgley and Rodrigo Blankenship, is capable of making a kick like that when it matters most, or if Indianapolis needs to make a move to bring in a player with a more powerful leg.
