New Colts general manager Chris Ballard's to-do list gained a shocking addition late Wednesday night.
At the stroke of midnight, punter Pat McAfee announced he's retiring after eight seasons as one of the NFL's most underrated weapons. The 29-year-old led the league last season with a career-high 49.3-yard punting average and was named to his second Pro Bowl.
McAfee missed the game last week in Orlando, Fla., however, after announcing earlier in January that he would undergo his third knee surgery in the past four years.
That appears to have played a role in his decision to step away from the game, but so did an opportunity to join Barstool Sports -- a rapidly growing multimedia comedy production company that will open a studio in downtown Indianapolis at McAfee's request.
