The Indianapolis Colts have seen the first of their free agents depart for another club.
Starting free safety Dwight Lowery, who became a free agent when his one-year contract expired at 4 p.m., agreed to a deal with the San Diego Chargers. That means the Colts are likely leaning toward inserting promising young player Clayton Geathers into the starting lineup in 2016, on the heels of a strong rookie season.
Meanwhile, the Colts, according to a source, are still among the teams negotiating with inside linebacker Jerrell Freeman. He, too, became a free agent and is eligible to sign with any club.
