INDIANAPOLIS — There will be at least one change to Frank Reich’s coaching staff this off-season.
Defensive line coach Mike Phair is leaving to take the same job with the Carolina Panthers, a source told IndyStar on Monday, marking the first departure on the defensive side of the staff since Reich was hired in 2018.
Phair’s decision, like so many in the coaching world, came down to a relationship. Phair remains close with new Panthers defensive coordinator Phil Snow, the man who gave Phair his first coaching job. Snow was the defensive coordinator at Arizona State in the late 90’s, and he hired Phair as a graduate assistant/defensive line coach in 1999.
