INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts’ pressing need at linebacker crystallized in Chris Ballard’s mind the week before Christmas, as Indianapolis prepared to play a New York Giants team that suddenly looked dangerous after re-orienting its offense around the otherworldly talents of Saquon Barkley.
Anthony Walker’s lingering shoulder injury had reached the breaking point; he’d have to sit this one out. Darius Leonard, on his way to an All-Pro season, was battling an ankle injury that would end up forcing him to have surgery in April.
