INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts organization has made a significant move to address the NFL’s lack of diversity in the coaching ranks by expanding the franchise’s own coaching staff.
Indianapolis has created the Tony Dungy Diversity Fellowship to hire two diverse coaches to the staff each year — one on offense, one on defense — in roles that will help the coaches establish themselves in the NFL.
A committee that includes Dungy, the Irsay family, general manager Chris Ballard, head coach Frank Reich and other members of the organization will interview and select the coaches.
Dungy, the franchise’s all-time leader in coaching wins and the first Black coach to win a Super Bowl, occupies a special place in the franchise’s history and in this program.
