Three years after becoming the Colts’ 2013 first-round, Bjoern Werner is no longer a member of the team.
The Colts on Tuesday cut the under-performing outside linebacker after three seasons in which he produced 6.5 sacks in 38 games.
Drafted in the first round in 2013 to solidify the Colts’ pass rush, Werner ended up playing only a part-time role before being thrust into a starting role in 2014. That’s when his lack of impact as a pass rusher became evident, especially in light of veteran Robert Mathis’ season-ending Achilles injury.
Werner was moved to strong-side linebacker in 2015, where the Colts thought he had potential as an “edge setter.
