INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts have claimed tight end Andrew Vollert off of waivers from the Carolina Panthers, league sources told IndyStar on Friday, shoring up a position that has been thin on numbers early in training camp.
Indianapolis, which just activated Mo Alie-Cox off of the active/physically unable to perform list, has frequently been forced to practice with just three tight ends. Jack Doyle has missed the past two practices with a neck injury, Xavier Grimble has been out for a couple of days and Ian Bunting left Friday’s practice with an injury.
The Colts are thin enough at the position that they might add another tight end soon.
