Because of the COVID-19 virus, a maximum of 2,500 fans will be allowed in the stands for the Indianapolis Colts' home opener Sept. 20 against the Minnesota Vikings.
Franchise COO Pete Ward told IndyStar on Friday afternoon that the Marion County Public Health Department denied the Colts’ proposal to fill Lucas Oil Stadium to 15% capacity for the home opener but will allow 2,500 fans (less than 5%) to be in attendance. That number, Ward explained, was one the department of health felt was safe at this time.
“Our top priority always will be the health and safety of fans, players and staff, so we must take the necessary precautions to keep everyone safe, which includes a reduced stadium capacity on gameday,” Ward said in a statement.
