INDIANAPOLIS — The warning signs of what was to come for the Indianapolis Colts appeared almost as soon as the season started.
Adam Vinatieri, the Colts’ veteran kicker, the NFL’s all-time leader in points and a sure-fire Hall-of-Famer, couldn’t find his range. Five minutes into the second quarter of Indianapolis’ season-opener in Los Angeles, Vinatieri pushed an extra-point attempt wide right.
Vinatieri left seven points on the board that day, any one of which would have given the Colts a victory in regulation, but the game ended as a 30-24 overtime loss. It would not be the last time an errant Vinatieri kick would put the Colts on the wrong side of the scoreline in 2019.
