INDIANAPOLIS – The most enduring images of Tom Rathman typically involve the former 49ers fullback lowering his head, punishing a defender and often finding yardage where none seemed to exist.
It’s what he did during a distinguished career that landed him in the Niners’ Hall of Fame and produced two Super Bowl rings.
The current members of the Colts’ running backs unit likely don’t know much about all that. The oldest among them, Robert Turbin, wasn’t even born when Rathman was drafted by San Francisco out of Nebraska in 1986.
