Sammy Watkins was dealt to the Rams from the Bills in a surprise trade immediately before last season. He only had about a month to learn Sean McVay’s offense before the season began, and his numbers went down a bit as a result.
Watkins caught 39 passes for 593 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2017. However, the Rams’ offense as a whole was one of the best units in the league, and Watkins’ ability to stretch the field may have softened up opposing pass defenses underneath and given Jared Goff some easier passes to Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp.
