Peyton Manning announced his retirement earlier this offseason. He's reportedly elected to retire as a member of Denver Broncos rather than with the Indianapolis Colts.
Dave Furst of WRTV in Indianapolis reports Manning gave serious consideration to retiring as a Colt. However, Manning elected to not do so.
Manning would have needed to sign a one-day contract with the Colts to do so. Manning technically has one year left on his contract with the Broncos, so Denver would have needed to release him in order for Manning to join the Colts.
"I’m thankful to have played with so many great teammates, for two great organizations," Manning said at his retirement press conference. "People always were asking me, ‘Who are you retiring today as?’ I’m retiring as a football player from the University of Tennessee that played for the Colts and the Broncos and was very lucky to have played for all of them."
While Manning didn't retire a Colt, the franchise still views him as one. The team has already announced plans to build a statue in his honor and will retire his number.
