The Indianapolis Colts have won 11 games in each of Andrew Luck's three seasons. They're one of the favorites to advance to the Super Bowl this season, but the Colts need to win their division first. Here are four reasons why the Colts WILL win the AFC South this season.
Better Pass Rush
The Colts' defense isn't their biggest strength, but the defense will be just fine this season. The pass rush will be better than last season and that will help the entire defense. Trent Cole was added after averaging 8.5 sacks per season in 10 years with the Eagles. Jonathan Newsome led the Colts with 6.5 sacks in his rookie season. He has promise and should be better this season. Bjoern Werner, a former first round pick, could break out this season. Erik Walden had six sacks last season. Oh, and Robert Mathis is back after missing last season.
New Weapons
Reggie Wayne might be on the Patriots now, but the Colts will be better without him. He was great during his 14 years with the team, but Wayne wasn't the same player anymore. Bringing in Andre Johnson is an upgrade. Johnson struggled at times last season, but he should bounce back now that he has much better QB play. First rounder Phillip Dorsett is a burner who can help stretch the field. He could make some big plays this season. Frank Gore is the biggest addition to the team. Sure, he's 32 and aging, but he's a massive upgrade over Trent Richardson. With Gore, the Colts should have more success running the football.
Andrew Luck
Luck is already one of the best QBs in the NFL. Only Aaron Rodgers is better than him right now. He's by far the best QB in the AFC South. With Luck at the helm, the Colts will be winning the AFC South regularly.
AFC South Isn't Great
The Texans have promise, but they have a major need at quarterback. Is Brian Hoyer really going to guide any team to the playoffs? The Jaguars are a few years away from really competing and the same goes for the Titans. The Colts are clearly the best team in the AFC South.
