The Indianapolis Colts are diving headfirst into the offseason, and the team's first priority is re-signing its own players. They have several key contributors they need to bring back next season - but also those they need they need to get rid of to create cap space. Here are three notable players the Colts may cut this offseason:
RB Frank Gore
Gore is owed $3.5 million in 2017, the final year of his contract with the Colts. While that isn’t a lot of money to pay a starting running back, Gore is no longer a player who consistently has a positive impact on the game. With a draft class strong and deep at the running back position, look for the Colts to save that money by cutting Gore and find a replacement in the draft.
CB Patrick Robinson
Cutting Robinson would only save the Colts $2.5 million, but if you’re looking to create cap space somewhere, getting rid of a player who was very inconsistent last season may be the move. This would only happen if Indianapolis found a replacement they liked better in either free agency or the draft.
TE Dwayne Allen
Allen is due over $5.9 million next season, and his production definitely doesn’t merit that kind of payday. He hasn’t played in 16 full games since his rookie year (2012), which also marks the last time he had over 406 receiving yards for caught more than 35 passes in a single season.
