The Indianapolis Colts have released veteran running back Trent Richardson after two seasons with the team, ending a tenuous partnership that saw Richardson left inactive/suspended for the team's final two playoff games in 2014.
Here's NFL Network's Ian Rapoport with the report:
The #Colts have released Trent Richardson.

Richardson was made inactive for the team's second playoff game against the Denver Broncos -- the first time in his career he was given such a designation. The next week, he was inactive again for the AFC title game against the Patriots.
Traded to Indianapolis from the Cleveland Browns, Richardson never truly produced on the level of a #1, or even a #2 running back. He was held to an abysmal 2.9 yards per carry in his 14 regular-season games for Indy in 2013, improving that rate to just 3.3 yards per carry (for 519 yards and 3 touchdowns) in 2014 -- a far cry from his 950-yards, 11-touchdown rookie season with the Browns in 2012.
The Colts also released running back Michael Hill on Monday. Hill spent time on the team's practice squad in November 2014 and was a special teams-only player for Baltimore in two of their postseason contests.
