Colts cornerback Greg Toler had a less-than-stellar season in 2014, but it sounds like the team isn't interested in cutting ties just yet.
Toler is due to make $4.75 million in 2015, after which he becomes a free agent. The Colts just don't have a lot of CB depth behind Vontae Davis (who was the second-best corner in the NFL in 2014, per Pro Football Focus), and Toler ended up being a frequent target for quarterbacks looking to avoid Davis' side of the field.
The Colts don't have a massive amount of cap space to work with, and the number of sure-fire upgrades available through free agency is slim. The Colts are widely expected to take a cornerback early in the draft, but Toler will likely stick around - and start - if the team is unable to find an upgrade elsewhere.
While Toler certainly didn't light the NFL on fire in 2014, he's still a veteran presence who can provide insurance if the team picks up a better player to start ahead of him. Toler might have had a rough season, but his backup in 2014 - Josh Gordy - was orders of magnitude worse. In addition, a lot of Toler's problems were magnified because opposing quarterbacks had all day to throw, and a better pass rush should help mask some of his deficiencies if he once again ends up in the starting lineup.
