The Indianapolis Colts' rousing 27-24 victory over the Denver Broncos did two things -- it knocked the Broncos from the ranks of the unbeaten and it reaffirmed that this Colts team is good enough to hang with any opponent put in front of them. With that being said, it's time to give head coach Chuck Pagano the break he's due. Here's 3 Reasons Why Chuck Pagano Isn't The Problem For The Colts.
3. Rumors Aren't Necessarily Reality
We have all heard the rumblings about the rift between Pagano and GM Ryan Grigson. There may be a solid measure of truth to those, but no "source" or media outlet is going to have the entire story. Unless the Patriots are helping with some Spygate-type shenanigans around the Colts front office, we can't know just how the relationship between Grigson is or isn't evolving. Critics have pointed to the relationship between the two as a major reason for why the team has been scuffling. It may be, but who really knows to what extent? Pagano's doing the work and pushing his players to perform regardless, as evidenced by Sunday.
2. Turnovers
The Colts came into Sunday's game with a -8 turnover margin which tied them for 30th in the NFL. Magically, they won Sunday's showdown by killing the turnovers and forcing two on defense. You can prepare a team all you want during the week, but it's up to the individual players to execute. They did just that on Sunday, and Indianapolis showed why it's a legit threat if/when they make the playoffs.
1. Even Keel
Reporters around the Colts practice field and locker room this week remarked on just how loose yet focused this team was heading into the biggest game of the season so far. Pagano is underrated when it comes to his ability to keep players and coaches level-headed even with the chips are stacked against them. You wouldn't know that this team was 3-5 by the way they zipped around the field on both sides of the ball. Things haven't gone their way for the majority of this season, but the team is still getting coached up the right way by Pagano.
