The Indianapolis Colts had a great season, but lost to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. Indy is a team on the rise with Andrew Luck under center, but they still need some pieces to step up in order to become legitimate championship contenders. Here are three players they're targeting in the first round of the NFL draft to boost their roster:
OT Ereck Flowers, Miami
Flowers plays with a true edge and a pronounced chip on his shoulder, and that aggressiveness will serve him well in the NFL trenches. The Colts have struggled mightily to protect Andrew Luck, and Flowers’ impressive size/strength combination could be just what the team needs to plug that hole right up.
SS Landon Collins, Alabama
Indianapolis’ safeties struggled in pass coverage in 2014, and after cutting starting strong safety LaRon Landry, they need to find a good player who can anchor the back end of the defense. Collins already has pro size at 6’0″ and 228 lbs., which he uses – along with great instincts – to be an absolute force in the running game. He needs to get more consistent in pass coverage, but he has the skills to be an impact player right away for the Colts.
OL Laken Tomlinson, Duke
If Flowers isn't available at the end of the first round, the Colts will move quickly to draft Tomlinson. He would fit in as a skilled, intelligent player who should be able to start right away as a rookie and have a long career.
