TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State fell prey to a pair of big innings in the second game of a doubleheader against Illinois State Saturday, dropping the day's finale in five innings, 14-2.
The Sycamores (11-15, 1-4 Missouri Valley) two runs on the game came in an error-filled third inning in which the visiting Redbirds (11-20, 5-0) committed four errors. But despite the several miscues by Illinois State, the Trees would only push across two runs in the inning and strand four on base in the game overall, including just one in that inning.
Meanwhile Illinois State would bookend the game with a pair of seven-run frames, starting with seven runs on seven hits in the first inning that began with a one-out, three-run home run.
